Jaco Clothing – Cool Stuff

Here you can search by player and find their velocities rounded to the integer on different days. We set the Stalker gun to Tenths for the most accurate feedback, but for these purposes have rounded each value. We gun some kids some days and not others, so each chart is unique. You will find each throw as well as the Average, Max and Mode. We hope all three increase over time, but each day is different; we all have good and bad days. But, the trend over time has proven that my program has had good success in almost all throwers.
The most important value is the MODE – the most recurring value. Average can be misleading because we try to record every throw; if you take one pitch off and have a big drop, it can have a drastic effect on your average. For example: 90-90-90-86 yields an 89 average, when in reality the thrower was sitting at 90, but simply took one lazy throw. We have found that a slight drop in intensity can cause a 2-4 mph drop, so the mode is really going to tell us where the thrower “sits” comfortably when giving his or her best intensity. In this example, the thrower sits at 90, but the average is 89. However, pay attention to the sample size when comparing mode – in some cases where one set has few data values and one has many, the average may be the better statistical choice. It all depends, so judge carefully.

Note: All velocities shown are from flat ground from the stretch with a leg kick (pitchers) or from a crow hop (position players). In-game velocities are typically 2-5mph higher than these values, factoring in adrenaline and competition-intensity.

Also Note: The Jan.28 values for Hieb, Frantz & Rogers were from the mound in front of college coaches. It’s not appropriate to compare these increased speeds to the values obtained from the rest of Warbird Academy; I’ve added them to their profiles simply because I have the data. To compare flat-ground throwing to a bullpen in front of scouts would be misleading, and it’s not my intent to misrepresent my data. But, you can clearly see the effect that adrenaline has on their velocities – again, a 2-5 mph gain on average. Put them in cleats on a dirt mound in a game and you can safely add another 1-2 on top of that.
